Post doctoral scientist (Grade 4/5) with significant experience in bone erosion

Job Description:
Important: Experience of in vivo, ex vivo and in vitro models of bone erosion highly desirable. Home Office licence.

We are currently looking for a Post doctoral Research Scientist with significant experience in bone erosion to join a leading biopharmaceutical company in Berkshire.

Job specification:
To build up pharmacological expertise in the area of connective tissue remodelling (especially bone) and apply this expertise to company projects.

To investigate bone loss and connective tissue remodelling within the context of inflammation, steroid treatment and osteoporosis using appropriate in vivo and in vitro techniques. To apply these techniques to company projects. To ensure all work is carried out according to both Home Office and Health and Safety regulations. To communicate data regularly within the company and to maintain laboratory notebooks according to company policy. To manage and train less experienced staff.

To share data with others in Pharmacology by posting results regularly to the common drive. To become literate in the main software packages used within pharmacology. To take an interest in the science underlying company projects through keeping up-to-date with the literature and attending scientific meetings as appropriate. To take a general interest in the company and its strategic direction. To attend training courses as appropriate. To help maintain a good working environment by taking on such house keeping roles as deemed necessary by the laboratory manager and line manager.

The work is predominantly laboratory based, excellent practical skills are needed. Organisational skills are vital, particularly to plan ahead so that experiments are completed in a timely manner. It is important to integrate well into a close knit team and to support colleagues in their work. To work unsocial hours as the need arises eg dosing and monitoring animals at weekends.

PERSON SPECIFICATION

JOB TITLE: Post doctoral scientist (Grade 4/5)

BRIEF OUTLINE OF DUTIES:

1、ATTAINMENTS (Educational, Professional qualifications, etc.) A PhD in the area of connective tissue remodelling, especially bone. Other backgrounds might be considered in the light of appropriate experience.

2、EXPERIENCE Experience of in vivo, ex vivo and in vitro models of bone erosion highly desirable. Home Office licence.

3、GENERAL INTELLIGENCE (Including ability to benefit by training, and apply knowledge.) Must have the ability to understand how the work fits in to the general context of the projects. Capable of defining key questions and designing experiments to address them.

4、SPECIAL APTITUDES (Qualifications, numeracy, driving licence, etc.)

5、DISPOSITION ( Acceptability, initiative, motivation) Drive and enthusiasm. Friendly open personality.
