Job Description:
The National Institute for Nutrition and Seafood Research (NIFES) is a research institute with administrative duties, linked to the Ministry of Fisheries and Coastal Affairs. Our research focus is nutrition; feed for fish, and fish for food. The institute gives scientific advice to the government and the food authorities concerning health and safety aspects of seafood from both wild and farmed fish.

NIFES is situated in Bergen, Norway and has 140 employees of which 45 are researchers and Ph.D. students. About 30 master students are currently attached to the institute. The research is organised in four research programmes and the analytical work is organised in three laboratories integrated within the institute. http://www.nifes.no

POST-DOCTORAL FELLOWSHIP IN MOLECULAR TOXICOLOGY

Significant confusion exists regarding the safety of consuming diets high in seafood. While seafood can act as a source of contaminants such as methyl-mercury, brominated flame retardants, PCB's and dioxins, it is also a rich supply of essential trace elements, vitamins and fatty acids. The successful candidate for this position will play an integral role in several ongoing funded projects including the NordForsk NCoE "MitoHealth" assessing the impacts and toxic mechanisms of seafood contami-nants and the ameliorative effects of nutrients on these deleterious actions. The primary goal of this research is to generate information that can be incorporated into balanced risk/ benefit assessment of seafood consumption.
