Description

A postdoctoral position is available to study the physiology and drug regulation of neurons in the brain reward circuit, i.e., the mesolimbic dopamine system. We are currently working on the following three projects.

1) Calcium signaling in the brain reward circuit
This project investigates calcium signaling in neurons of the mesolimbic system and its impact on neuronal excitability and plasticity.
2) Alcohol action on neurons in the brain reward circuit
The goal of this project is to identify key ion channels and neurotransmitter systems targeted by alcohol in the mesolimbic system.
3) Local microcircuits in the striatum
Transgenic mice in which specific types of neurons are labeled with green fluorescent protein will be used to study the connectivity of neurons in the striatum.

Techniques used in the lab include brain slice electrophysiology, confocal calcium imaging and flash photolysis of caged compounds.

The candidate must have a Ph.D. or M.D. Previous experience in brain slice electrophysiology with a decent publication record is necessary. An excellent scientific writing skill is highly desirable. The position will be supported by NIH training grant, thus the applicant must be a US citizen or a permanent resident (a green card holder). The initial appointment will be 2 years with a possibility of extension.

To apply, please send a CV, brief statement of research interest and names of 2-3 references to:
