A postdoctoral position is available to study mechanisms and functional consequences of synaptic plasticity in thalamic and neocortical microcircuits, using electrophysiological and optical techniques in brain slices. We are particularly interested in understanding the unique roles of different types of inhibitory interneurons in controlling information flow in local neuronal circuits. Other projects focus on the role of astrocytes in modulating synaptic transmission and on retrograde synaptic signaling via the release of endocannabinoids.
