The Comparative Genomics group (Martijn Huynen)at the Nijmegen Center for Molecular Life Sciences (NCMLS) in collaboration with the groups of Cell Biology (Be Wieringa), Biochemistry (Peter Willems and Werner Koopman) and Pediatrics (Leo Nijtmans) is looking for a talented and motivated candidate to functionally characterize mitochondrial proteins. Bioinformatics methods for protein function prediction have been used to provide hypotheses about the function of a number of hypothetical mitochondrial proteins. The specific focus is on proteins involved in translation and complex assembly and in mitochondrial fusion/fission. The candidate will use experimental techniques, like. cloning, transfection, RNA interference, quantitative multi-parameter microscopy and functional assays to test these hypotheses, and thus elucidate the functioning of mitochondria.The function is initially for two years with the possibility for an extension of two years.Requirements: PhD in Biochemstry or Cell Biology. Affinity with mitochondrial research. Salary: starting at 38.000 -48.000 Euro, depending on experience
