What Regulates DNA Replication Origin Activity? Applications are invited for the above post funded by the BBSRC in the laboratory of Dr Conrad Nieduszynski to study the molecular mechanisms that regulate DNA replication origin activity. The successful candidate will use a combination of microarray molecular biology and bioinformatics approaches to investigate mechanisms that regulate DNA replication origin activity (see Nieduszynski et al. 2006 Genes & Dev 20: 1874- and Nieduszynski et al. Nucleic Acids Research 33: 2410-). The aim is to determine how the processes of DNA replication and transcription are co-ordinated to ensure complete genome replication.

Institution

Institute of Genetics, School of Biology, the University of Nottingham

Position

Postdoctoral Position in the Regulations of  DNA Replication Origin Activity

Salary

Salary will be within the range £25,134 – £32,796 per annum, depending on qualifications and experience (salary can progress to £35,837 per annum, subject to performance). This post is available from 1 January 2008 and will be offered on a fixed-term contract until 31 December 2011.

Description

Applications are invited for the above post, funded by the BBSRC, in the laboratory of Dr Conrad Nieduszynski to study the molecular mechanisms that regulate DNA replication origin activity. The successful candidate will use a combination of microarray, molecular biology and bioinformatics approaches to investigate mechanisms that regulate DNA replication origin activity (see Nieduszynski et al., 2006, Genes & Dev, 20: 1874- and Nieduszynski et al., Nucleic Acids Research 33: 2410-). The aim is to determine how the processes of DNA replication and transcription are co-ordinated to ensure complete genome replication.

The project involves collaboration with Professor Katsu Shirahige (Tokyo Institute of Technology, Japan), for the microarray experiments, and with Professor Joel Huberman (Roswell Park Cancer Institute, NY, USA). As a result of these collaborations, it will be possible to test models in both budding yeast (Saccharomyces cerevisiae) and fission yeast (Schizosaccharomyces pombe) and there may be opportunities for research visits to these laboratories.

Candidates must hold a PhD and ideally have an interest in DNA replication and genome stability. Relevant yeast, molecular biology and bioinformatics experience will be useful. Experience with microarrays, DNA replication, comparative genomics or systems biology approaches will be an advantage (although training will be available).

Contact

Candidates should send (preferably by Email) a detailed CV and covering letter explaining their interest in the post, together with the names and addresses of two referees, to Dr C Nieduszynski, Institute of Genetics, School of Biology, The University of Nottingham, Medical School, Queen’s Medical Centre, Nottingham, NG7 2UH. Please quote ref. MED/206.

Informal enquiries may be addressed to Dr C Nieduszynski, tel: 01224 555925 or Email: conrad@oridb.org. Further information is also available at: http://www.nottingham.ac.uk/genetics/nieduszynski/.>
