A postdoctoral position is available immediately to study gene regulation in the marine invertebrate chordate, Ciona intestinalis. The research will mainly focus on the identification and characterization of transcription factors involved in development and differentiation of the notochord. The projects will involve cloning, plasmid construction, protein purification, gel-shift assays, in situ hybridization, microscopy, as well as in vivo experiments, such as electroporation of plasmid DNA into fertilized Ciona eggs, embryo rearing and targeted silencing of the genes of interest followed by the analysis of the resultant phenotypes in living ascidian embryos. Candidates should have obtained their Ph.D. no longer than 2 years ago and must have documented experience in molecular biology, with a particular emphasis on cloning and protein purification. A background in developmental and evolutionary biology and excellent communication skills are highly desirable.
