We have a postdoctoral position available, starting October 2012, in the Biophysical Imaging and Spectroscopy Group at The Rowland Institute at Harvard. The Institute is dedicated to experimental science over a broad range of disciplines. Currently, research is carried out in physics, chemistry, and biology, with an emphasis on interdisciplinary work and the development of new experimental tools. The Institute is located in Cambridge, Massachusetts near the Longfellow Bridge, a few miles downstream from the main campus.

We are seeking a highly motivated person to carry out experimental research into high-throughput characterization of bacterial motility with a particular emphasis on collective chemotactic behavior. Preference will be given to applicants with some experience of light scattering measurements. Our group is small, so the applicant must be able to work with a good degree of independence and creativity.
 

As well as a Ph.D in Physics, Biophysics, Microbiology or a related area, the candidate will ideally possess the following:

Experience and understanding of standard microscopy techniques, for example: Epifluorescence, DIC , phase contrast.

Programming experience: LabVIEW, Matlab, C++ or equivalent.

Practical experience in a biophysics/soft matter/physical chemistry lab.
