Description
A Postdoctoral scientist position is available utilizing Drosophila for the study of human neurological disease. The position is funded for at least two years through Autism Speaks. This exciting translational project involves proteomic and microarray screens in Drosophila to detect genes involved in the etiology of autism spectrum disorders (including dup15q syndrome and Angelman syndrome). Subsequent validation of these genes in the disease condition will be performed in the fly neuromuscular junction, mouse models and through association studies in autism families. Applicants should have a strong background in both molecular biology and protein chemistry, but do not necessarily need experience in Drosophila genetics. Qualifications include good written and oral skills in English, no more than two years post graduate training, and a desire to work on projects directly related to human neurological disease.
