Iron and sulfur oxidizing acidophiles are utilized for the sustainablerecovery of metals from ores in the process termed ‘biomining’. Thestudy will involve the use of proteomics, transcriptomics, and moleculartechniques to study acidophile metabolism, pH homeostasis, and metals resistance.
Candidates should have a PhD in microbiology, biotechnology or molecularbiology and ideally have experience of proteomics including massspectrometry and subsequent analysis of the identified proteins andgenes. Experience of acidophile microbiology would also be an asset.
The position will be in the Department of Molecular Biology, UmeåUniversity, Sweden (www.umu.se/). Umeå has more than 100,000 inhabitantsand is a major centre in the otherwise sparsely populated northernSweden. It is surrounded by vast areas of boreal forest, and is located15 km from the Baltic Sea and 300 km from the Scandes Mountains.
