Description
The Buck Institute for Age Research is seeking a Postdoctoral Scholar towork with scientists in a non-profit biomedical research institute. Asthe only independent institute in the U.S. devoted solely to research onaging and age-related disease, the Buck Institute is focused onunderstanding the mechanisms of aging and discovering new ways ofdetecting, preventing and treating conditions such as Alzheimer’s,Parkinson’s, amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, cancer, arthritis, andstroke. Designated by the National Institute of Aging as one of fiveNathan Shock Centers of Excellence in the Biology of Aging, the Buck isa recognized national and regional resource for those studying the agingprocess. The Institute’s innovative, collaborative research is supportedby four technology cores including; genomics, proteomics/massspectrometry, cellular imaging/morphology and transgenic services.
The Buck Institute is located in Novato, 25 miles north of the GoldenGate Bridge. The Institute opened its research facility in 1999 andcurrently has approximately 150 employees representing 17 countries. TheBuck Institute was designed by world famous architect I.M Pei, and sitson 488 acres of land on Mt. Burdell.
Postdoctoral scholar sought for basic and translational research in thefields of neural stem cell therapies for Huntington’s disease (HD). Thescholar will be involved in experimental studies of human embryonic stemcell to create HD models and therapies for transplantation in HD mousemodels and other neurodegenerative diseases. These studies will becarried out with Dr. Lisa Ellerby and Xianmin Zeng.
