Description
A postdoctoral research position in biological informatics at ColdSpring Harbor Laboratory is available to a motiviated scientist who isinterested in applying computational approaches to manipulating andanalyzing large molecular and genetic datasets. The succesful candidatewill join an ongoing NSF-funded project studying replication origins andthe overall organizational structure of plant chromosomes usinghigh-density microarrays and next-generation sequencing technologies.
The successful candidate will be responsible for developing newalgorithms, tools, and scripts for analysis and interpretation of thehigh-throughput data components of this project. Research may include,but is not restricted to, such topics as cluster computing, machinelearning systems, statistical modeling applications, and genomeannotation tools.
Candidates are required to have a Ph.D. in Genetics, Plant Biology,Biochemistry and/or Computational Biology (or equivalent). Ideally, theywill have a good understanding of statistics and experience with atleast one scripting language (such as Perl or Python), the R programmingenvironment, and relational databases. Previous experience withmicroarrays or high-throughput sequencing is desirable but not required,as is a general interest in chromosome biology and epigenetics.
Funding for this position is secured for two years from date of hire.However, the successful candidate is expected and encouraged to applyfor all eligible fellowships.
