Description
Applications are invited for a Postdoctoral Research Fellowship, funded by
Science Foundation Ireland, in the laboratory of Prof. Suzi Jarvislocated in
the UCD Conway Institute for Biomolecular and Biomedical Research,
University College Dublin.
The project will investigate the generic and specific properties of
physiological and pathogenic amyloid fibrils in order to betterunderstand the
functional and toxic characteristics of these generic protein quaternary
structures. Molecular and cellular level investigations of the fibrils
themselves, their formation and their interactions will be made with arange of
experimental techniques including, confocal microscopy, flow cytometry and
atomic force microscopy.
The applicant should hold a PhD or have submitted their PhD thesis preferably
in structural biology, cell biology or biophysics prior to taking up the
appointment. The applicant must have demonstrated skills with a range of
experimental techniques and will have a particular motivation to work as part
of a multidisciplinary research team. The applicant will be expected to help
maintain ongoing local and international collaborations.
Salary will be internationally competitive, commensurate with skills and
experience and in the range €35-45K. The post is available from 1st May
2008 for one year (extendable for up to three years).
