Applications are invited for post-doctoral positions to study thedevelopment of motor circuits in vertebrates in the team of FrancoiseHelmbacher at the Institute of Developmental Biology of Marseille-Luminy(IBDML, CNRS UMR 6216). Our research focuses on neuronal cell typespecification in the spinal cord and formation of neural circuitscontrolling locomotion. Our team combines the use of genetically alteredmice with embryological approaches and tissue culture systems, toelucidate 1) the molecular mechanisms involved in motor poolspecification, and 2) the role of molecular effectors in axonal pathwayand target selection during the establishment of motor circuits. We areespecially interested in understanding how the specific match betweengiven motor pools and their selective muscle targets is encoded at themolecular level in motor neurons and in muscles. We are located in the Luminy Campus, Marseille, France. Our groupbenefits from the highly stimulating environment offered by theinstitute of Developmental Biology of Marseille(http://www.ibdml.univ-mrs.fr), one of the excellent and productiveresearch environments in Southern France, which is composed of more than20 groups working in the area of developmental Biology, Neurobiology and Cancer.
Requirements:
The candidates should have a PhD in biology, be highly motivated, have asolid experience in molecular biology and mouse genetics, and possiblyin vertebrate nervous system development.
We offer:
We currently have openings for two postdoctoral positions. Funding isavailable owing to grants from the ANR (French National researchagency), and from the FRM (Fondation Recherche Médicale), startingaround September 2008, for up to two years each, depending onqualifications. Selected applicant are expected to apply for funding tocover their salary for subsequent years.
