POSITION FOR A POSTDOCTORAL SCIENTIST
(Ref-No. 191/2008)
in the Group of Dr. Michael Boutros Department of Signaling andFunctional Genomics In higher organisms, processes such as homeostasis,cell proliferation, differentiation and survival are regulated bycellular signaling pathways. In order to guarantee the temporal andspatial control of these pathways, they are tightly regulated atmultiple levels and aberrant regulation often leads to the occurrence ofdiseases such as cancer. We use genomic and genetic approaches in modelorganisms and human cells to analyze gene functions on a genome-widescale (Bartscherer et al., Cell 2006; Mueller et al., Nature 2005).
As part of the EU collaborative project “CancerPathways”, undertaken ineight research groups in five European countries, we are seeking apostdoctoral scientist.
The international project focuses on the analysis of developmentalmolecular pathways in Drosophila as a model for human cancer. Theproject will involve the establishment of high-throughput assays for theanalysis of developmental pathways in Drosophila and large-scale RNAiand compound screens. In addition, cell biological and genetic methodswill be applied to investigate identified signaling components.
Your profile
You should be highly motivated, enthusiastic about science and hold aPh.D. in biology or a related field. In addition, you should have aproven track record in molecular and cellular biology as well asexperience with Drosophila genetics. Strong quantitative skills andexperience in genomic analysis of cellular signaling pathways is an advantage.
The German Cancer Research Center is a member in the HelmholtzAssociation and performs research in the areas of basic andtranslational cancer biology. We offer an international and dynamic workenvironment, access to a broad range of continuing education courses andthe possibility to contribute to projects at the frontier of cancer research.
The position is available immediately and initially limited to two years.
