Postdoctoral Scientist
(Ref-No. 51/2010)

Description: The German Cancer Research Center is a member in the Helmholtz Association of National Research Centers and performs research in the areas of basic and translational cancer biology.
The working group “Cancer Genome Research” is focusing on improving diagnosis and prognosis of cancer patients as well as identifying and validating novel therapy targets. We apply high-throughput functional genomics and proteomics technologies and analyze candidate genes using in vitro and in vivo systems.

The tasks of the successful candidate include the application of cellular analysis methods for the functional characterization of tumor-relevant genes (focus on prostate, lung and breast cancer). Novel cellular assays will be continuously implemented. Cellular systems for the overexpression and silencing of cancer candidate genes in suitable tumor cell lines are established.

Solid and documented knowledge in cell and molecular biology as well as strong interest in the application and development of technologies for high-throughput biomedical research and data analysis are required.

Your profile:
• University degree and PhD in biology, biochemistry, biotechnology or related fields
• Experiences in molecular and cell biology
• Excellent command of English (written and oral) is mandatory
• Highly motivated person with proven skills in team working and communication

The position is initially limited until 31st May 2011 with the possibility for an extension and can in principle be part-time.
