Job Description:
A post doctoral research position is available with a start date of 1 September 2007 for a period of 2 years to carry out research in laser diagnostics.The main focus of this project will be on the development and application of laser-induced incandescence, involving both experimental and theoretical work. The experimental work will be directed towards the development of LII for soot particle sizing. An existing laser heated soot cooling model based on energy and mass exchange will be developed further to have a realistic measure of soot particle sizes at higher pressures. The developed techniques will be applied to internal combustion engines.
We are looking for a self-motivated candidate, who has a Ph.D. in engineering, laser physics or physical chemistry, with experience of using lasers for engine or combustion diagnostics. Good experimental skills and knowledge in spectroscopy, optics and computer programming would be greatly beneficial.
The successful candidate will be responsible for conducting independent research in (optical) engine for characterising in-cylinder and exhaust soot particle sizing.
Salary :
£20,842-£23,457 pa plus £2,166 pa London Weighting
