Job Description

A new postdoctoral position is available starting on December 1, 2007 at Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University (Virginia Tech) in Blacksburg, Department of Human Nutrition, Foods and Exercise. The incumbent’s primary responsibility will be to pursue research projects focused on determining the role of various botanicals and synthetic drugs in the prevention and treatment of diabetes and elucidating the mechanisms underlying these biological effects. The postdoctorate is also expected to participate in grant proposal preparation, present results of research at professional conferences and write and publish research papers in peer-reviewed journals.

Required qualification:
Candidates should have a Ph.D or equivalent in life science area with preferable research experience in use of diabetic animal models, Cellular and/or Molecular Biology techniques, knowledge in pharmacology, endocrinology and/or nutrition. Good communication skills, ability to work independently, demonstrated creativity and high motivation are highly desired.

This position is initially for one year and may be renewed annually thereafter depending on performance and funding.
